Recently, Lil Reggie Cookies was denied rent at several buildings in downtown Raleigh. Instead of giving up, what did Reggie’s father do? He built Reggie a cookie cart and obtained a permit to start selling cookies along Glenwood South. Also, this week The Dankery LLC next to NC State started carrying Lil Reggie Cookies. We have all the places where you can find Lil Reggie Cookies and his cookie cart at the end of our story.
To appreciate Reggie’s perseverance and faith, we met up with Reggie to take you through this young man’s incredible journey and how far he’s come.
As a child, Lil Reggie’s dream was to open up a cookie shop. At an early age, he walked the streets with his father, Lamont Sanders, a pastor and street evangelist, to assist at risk youth, prostitutes, drug addicts and the homeless. His mother was an avid baker, and Lil Reggie dabbled in the home kitchen, baking his first cookie at age 4 for Mother’s Day.
As Reggie grew up, so did his passion and knowledge for baking, to where he crafted his own recipes. To keep startup costs low, his father designed the branding, logo, packaging, and website. Business picked up and Reggie begged his dad to quit his job and help his cookie business full time.
In 2021, Reggie’s father invested in a commercial kitchen space for him. The time had come for others to taste Lil Reggie Cookies. Starting out with family, friends, parties, and expanding to local pop up events, his cookies were a big hit, and the more cookies people wanted, the more Reggie fine tuned his craft. He stood by his promise to keep prices affordable, using only organic ingredients, and utilizing social media and word of mouth to gain customers.
A few years ago, an opportunity came for Reggie to sell his cookies inside Raleigh downtown’s Carroll’s Kitchen. He attracted many new customers from the Grand Opening. But due to uncontrollable circumstances, Lil Reggie Cookies departed, thanked Carroll’s Kitchen, and plowed forward.
And so we’ve come full circle. Lil Reggie Cookies flavors rotate weekly, from Cinnamon Roll, Red Velvet, Chocolate Chip, Snickerdoodle, Butter Pecan, and so much more. Each cookie box is stamped with “Love Not Hate”, a reminder of his faith. You can find Lil Reggie Cookies at their commercial kitchen bordering downtown (2161 South Wilmington St), the Dankery (2526 Hillsborough St), the Raleigh Flea Market on weekends, pop up markets, Grubhub delivery, catered, or even shipped — please call ahead to confirm.
As for Lil Reggie Cookies cart, he’ll be operating the cart at Glenwood South on the corner of Glenwood Ave and Willard Place in the early evenings on W/F/Sat/Sun. Stay with us or follow his social media for updates. A portion of all proceeds continues to go towards taking care of the needy.
Reggie’s dream to open up a Raleigh storefront is still alive, so HELP him with any leads.
